KCC Commits Cloud Service, the Next Internet Portrait

Choi See-joong, Chairman of KCC has visited LG CNS Sangam IT Center

On May 18, Choi See-joong, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission visited LG CNS Sangam IT Center to discuss prospects of local cloud services with CEOs. Along with the proliferation of Smartphone, traffic is increasing and through Green IT the need for cost savings is becoming clear. Chairman Choi is aware of this trend and showed his interest in Cloud service as the next generation internet business model.

While global companies such as Amazon and Google already commercialized Cloud Service with their significant capital and technology, it will affect the domestic market sooner or later. Chairman Choi emphasized the role of government and enterprises, research institutions and associations to cooperate to protect the domestic market against encroachment.

Attended companies introduced the actual cloud services industry through a demonstration and explanation of the latest trends at the meeting and requested the government's active support for the activation such as cloud services law, system improvements and provision of trust-based security for users, authentication systems and publicity. They also suggested political support and educational programs small businesses who produce the technology for Cloud services.

Chairman Choi promised that he will try to establish guidelines, authentication systems for quality of service and security systems. Also, with the relevant authorities, he will strive to improve systems for cloud services in terms of future technology and green technology. In addition, the Korean government will seek diverse ways to support small business skills by setting up a test bed and raising a conference for public awareness (planned in September).

For the meeting, directors from KT, Samsung SDS, LG CNS, GS Neotek, , Ahn Lab, Feelingk, Tilon and Cisco Systems Korea attended. Representatives of the Internet Development Agency of Korea (KISA), Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea Research Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) were also present.
