KT Commercializes World's First 5G Barista Robot
5G robot cafe 'B;eat'

The world's first 5G robot cafe opened in Gangnam, Seoul.

KT announced on December 25 that it has applied 5G network to "B;eat", an unmanned robot cafe in the Samsung Life Insurance building in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

"B;eat" is a robot cafe with a coffee-specialized brand sweet coffee that is ordered by a barista robot and makes coffee.

KT applied 5G wireless network to its mobile robot cafe that used to operate wired Internet.

Because 5G MHS (Mobile Hot Spot) is installed in the robot cafe, it receives signals from 5G base stations without wired internet and works.

The 5G network installed in the robot cafe is a high-quality, intelligent CCTV video of full HD and is used to send and receive status information of robots to and from the control center 24 hours a day.

The B;eat recognizes visitors to the cafe through CCTVs mounted on the robot. And it sends the situation in the cafe to the manager in high quality video.

KT is planning to add voice recognition and AI functions to Barista robots in the future.

"The 5G Barista Cafe 'B;eat' is the world's first 5G robot cafe to offer real-life service to its customers in downtown Seoul," said Park Hyun-jin, head of KT's 5G Business Headquarters. "In the 5G era, intelligent robots will be a new platform that will completely transform our lives and industries."
