Korean state research and development for next generation displays receives 500 billion won over the next seven years.  The march of progress took Alexander the Great far in his lifetime and the Korean Government are not entirely dissimilar in their ambitions towards digital dominance.  This move by the Korean government is an effort to tame competitor's ambitions and retain Korea as forerunners in this market.

The cash injection strategy is intended to energize domestic suppliers into becoming competitive amongst themselves as well.  Environmental concerns are high on the list in the consideration of the development of the next round of screens as Green Tech continues to be of high importance to both consumers and the longevity of industry and strategies.  A U.S. market analyst stated "that Asia have become dominant in this market through early initiatives." This government move is a continuation of the early industry encouragement that raised Korean success in this market.

Major players in the Korean market for next generation screens , LG and Samsung, have already made moves to sell into homes.  The main threat to the larger industry players arises across the sea in Japan, from Panasonic and Sony.  Yet the government's market stimulation might create an underdog.  With an expected 10 years to pass before this market is said by analysts to reach critical mass, the show is well worth watching, with or without the 3D glasses.
