KT announced that it will launch next-generation message service (RCS), Rich Communication Suite, on December 28.
RCS is a data-based instant messaging service and is a next-generation communication service that adds functions such as group chatting to existing Short Message (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS).
KT has prepared to release its services along with Samsung Electronics to provide a convenient mobile environment for users.
With the new release, the Chatting is available right away from the smartphone without having to download a separate application. This service is available if user agrees to use the chat service in the smartphone message application.
Its strength is that it can group chat with up to 100 people at the same time and transfer large files up to 100 megabytes (MB).
Although current MMS was limited in transmission of data to 1MB size, chat service can share pictures and images as original without compromising quality.
In addition, messages are automatically converted to 'Chatting' or existing text messages depending on the contact's use of chat services. It is also possible to know whether the other person's message was received or not.
This service is available for Chatbot. Through chatbot service provided by businesses, one-on-one counseling can be provided and product information can be inquired. It is planning to upgrade to order and pay products within chatting service in the future.
Unlike text messages, chat services are not charged separately. Data will be deducted according to the billing service being used by the user.
Starting from December 28, KT is going to apply its service to Samsung Electronics' premium flagship smartphone Galaxy Note 9 and is planning to expand to Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in January of next year.
"We are planning to continuously introduce enhanced services through 5G video communication service after RCS service, which is a 5G message service," said Director Park Hyun-jin of KT 5G marketing division.
