Oh Kyung-soo, president of Jeju Province Development Co., is to be investigated in connection with the death of a worker at Jeju Samdasoo Factory in October.
The Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Administration's Jeju Labor Improvement Guidance Center said on Dec. 27 that it moves to send Oh Kyung-soo, president of Jeju Province Development Co., to the prosecution on charges of violating the Industrial Safety and Health Act, the News Jeju reported.
Separately, the Jeju Eastern Police Station, which is investigating the case, charged five people in charge of factory management, including a permanent director of Jeju Province Development Co., on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.
The accident occurred on Oct. 20 at a factory in Jeju Samdasoo Factory in Jeju Island. Around 6:43 p.m. on the same day, a worker in his 30s who was working on the machine got caught in a machine and was later taken to a hospital but died.
President Oh said at a news conference on Oct. 24, four days after the accident, "We will actively cooperate with the investigation by police and other related agencies."
"The president and I will take full responsibility for the accident," Oh said, adding, "All the executives and employees of the company will make sure that the noble efforts of the deceased are never wasted, and express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family."
