SK Innovation announced that it will introduce Flexible Cover Window, which is a core material of Flexible Display, at 'CES 2019' that will be held in Las Vegas starting from January 8.
Companies that participate in CES and visitors are expected to receive much attention as there are increasing interest in flexible displays that are applied to smartphones, laptops, tablets and others worldwide.
SK Innovation started developing polyimide film technology in 2006.
SK Innovation has also developed special hard-coating technology and functional coating technology to prevent contamination in order to implement flexible displays that need to be folded and unfolded tens of thousands of times.
This led to high levels of bending, strength, and Anti-scratch characteristics.
Strategy Analytics, a global market research company, is predicting that sales of global foldable phones, which is a major market for flexible displays, will increase to 50.1 million units in 2022.
It also predicted that applications will be expanded from smartphones and laptops to TVs, cars, and VR, and applications will become more diverse.
SK Innovation is planning to finish its demonstration plant early next year and participates in developing foldable displays through actual Flexible Cover Window products.
By investing about 40 billion won into its facilities in Jeungpyeong, North Chungcheong Province, it is currently constructing Flexible Cover Window plant with a goal of operating in second half of 2019.
