Kia Motors will unveil a system that controls the vehicle through real-time emotional reactions.
A Kia official said on January 3 that Kia Motors will introduce the world's first Real-time Emotion Adaptive Driving, R.E.A.D. system at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be held at the Convention Center in Las Vegas on the 8th (local time).
'R.E.A.D. System' refers to a technology that allows a car to recognize driver's biological signals and control five senses in a car in real time to optimize a vehicle's interior space according to the driver's situation.
Kia explained that the technology is a combination of AI's machine running and advanced cameras, sensors and vehicle control technology.
Kia Motors will exhibit 'Emotional Driving Space' to present 'Emotional Driving' as a step in the era of self-driving.
Emotional driving provides optimized environment such as temperature, lighting, vibration, music, etc. that is appropriate for a given situation through camera and sensor installed in a vehicle after learning about driver's biological information and emotional condition.
Research on the technical concept of the R.E.A.D system was conducted through collaboration with the Affective Computer Group under the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
At the CES, Kia will also unveil Virtual Touch, the world's first virtual touch gesture control technology applied to the R.E.A.D. system.
Virtual Touch technology can recognize direction that a passenger points through 3D cameras and control environment within a vehicle without having to touch a button or touch a screen.
