On the first day of the new year, a problem occurred in the pressure control system of the Jin Air flight from Incheon to Sapporo, Japan, causing passengers to wear oxygen masks.

According to Jin Air on Jan. 2, a warning light heralding a problem in the in-flight pressure control system came on the LJ231 flight that was headed for Sapporo, Japan from Incheon International Airport, carrying 181 passengers at 10:12 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The pressure control system is a device that maintains a certain level of air pressure and temperature inside the plane when the air pressure and temperature are lowered due to high altitude.

According to the manual, the captain dropped oxygen masks stored on top of the aircraft and asked passengers to wear them. Passengers wore oxygen masks for about 10 minutes.

The plane arrived at the airport in Sapporo at 10:50. At that time, passengers reportedly complained of headaches and dizziness. "After checking the passenger's condition right after arriving in Sapporo, the two passengers said they were not in good physical condition but not enough to go to the hospital, and the rest were fine," a Jin Air official said.

Jin Air said that it is currently in the process of repairing the relevant aircraft and that there was no problem with the operation by deploying a replacement aircraft.
