LG Electronics introduced "Rollable TV," which can be folded and unfolded like a scroll, at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) for the first time in the industry.
LG Electronics introduced "LG Signature OLED TV R (R)" a day before the opening of CES in Las Vegas on Jan. 7 (local time). After introducing rollable panels at CES last year, it revealed products that will actually be sold this year.
Rollable TV can be folded and unfolded up and down. Because OLED panels emit light on their own without any help from backlight, thickness of panels is thin and can be folded or rolled.
When a rollable TV is fully spread (full view), it is 65-inch, which is no different from a regular TV. However, "Line View" that is only exposed to part of a screen can be used like a long display and supports 5 modes such as music, clock, frame, mood, and home dashboard.
In the frame mode, pictures that are stored on smartphones and others can be viewed through a screen and in the mood mode, images and lighting effects such as bonfire can be shown. In the home dashboard mode, you can check and control the status of smart devices that are linked to TV.
"Zero View" can be used as a normal bluetooth speaker with the screen completely hidden. Its strength is 100 watts of voice output on 4.2 channels.
LG Electronics is planning to release rollable TVs in South Korea and other global markets within this year. "We are going to show the essence of display evolution through the world's first rollable OLED TV," said Kwon Bong-seok, president of LG Electronics' home appliance and mobile business headquarters.
