An assertion has been raised that Samsung Electronics Service (Samsung SVC) hired the main culprit of the labor union oppression by driving A, the late section chief of the Yangsan Service Center, to death.

In April last year, Samsung Electronics Service's labor and management decided to directly hire 8,700 employees of partner companies.

The labor union is protesting that the management hired B, the CEO of Busan and Yangsan Service Center, who was leading the destruction of the labor union, after driving A to death.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) held a press conference on Jan. 7 and urged Samsung to apologize to the union for the recruitment of B and immediately withdraw the recruitment.

The Samsung SVC union, which was launched in July 2013, went on strike, demanding the conclusion of a collective agreement.

A, the former section chief of the Yangsan Service Center, died in May 2014, leaving a suicide note in protest of the pressure from management.

"Samsung earlier said that it will not directly employ a person on trial or criminal because it is not good for the company's image," the Busan Yangsan branch of the Korean Metal Workers' Union said. "The hiring of a man who is on trial on suspicion of breaking up the union is not in line with other direct employment targets in terms of fairness."
