The Korean game industry plans to officially express its opposition to the registration of gaming disorder code, which is under discussion by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Korea Association of Game Industry announced on Jan. 14 that it will attend the 144th WHO executive committee meeting to be held in Geneva, Switzerland on Jan. 24, as a joint visiting group with the government.

The association's visit is designed to convey its position on the 11th amendment to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). The WHO made a stir in the global game industry as it included the code of gaming disorder in the ICD-11 in December 2017.

It is not only the Korean game industry that has such a strong objection to WHO's listing of ICD-11 gaming disorder code.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) of the U.S. immediately rebutted the ICD-11 on Jan. 3 last year, and held a meeting with the WHO in December to express its opposition to the gaming disorder code.

Meanwhile, the WHO plans to decide whether to approve ICD-11 at the general meeting scheduled for May.
