The 3D movies shown by HSPA+ deal with much larger capacities

Seoul, Korea, 24 May 2010 - SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) announced its plans to participate in the "World IT Show 2010 (or WIS 2010)" at COEX, Seoul, from May 25 to 28. At the exhibition, SK Telecom will fortify its strong technology leadership in Korean ICT industry as it showcases advanced technologies and diverse new services that adopt the cutting-edge technologies. SK Telecom also introduces its IPE (Industry Productivity Enhancement) business solutions that improve efficiency of other industries by utilizing wireless networks and ICT technologies.

This year's concept of 'Dream Factory' signifies that SK Telecom realizes dreams of the world through ICT technologies. SK Telecom displays a total number of 15 exhibition items in four areas: Advanced Network and Technologies, New Mobile Services, IPE (Industry Productivity Enhancement) Business Solutions, and Smartphone-related Services.

At the Advanced Network and Technology booth, SK Telecom will proudly showcase HSPA+ technology for the first time in Korea. HSPA+ improves the speed of data transmission by 50 percent compared to current HSPA (HSDPA / HSUPA). While the current HSPA supports up to 14.4 Mbps in maximum, HSPA+ supports up to 21Mbps. With HSPA+, users can stream a high-quality 3D movie file in real-time or download a 700MB sized movie wirelessly in around five minutes. As the first mobile operator to introduce HSPA+ in Korea, SK Telecom assures a leadership in mobile network technology and expects to take a superior position in commercialization of next-generation networks such as LTE or 4G in the future. In addition, fixed femtocell and Bridge devices that easily expand the WiBro network coverage and WPAN USIM that enables RFID and Zigbee function through USIM card will also be on display at the booth.

  • Ovjet is an augmented reality service that provides relevant information about shops or offices when buildings are shown through the mobile phone camera in real time.
Dictionary with Text Recognition service allows users to scan words with mobile phone cameras and to search the meanings in Korean, English, Chinese Character dictionaries and encyclopedia.

In line with its IPE strategy, SK Telecom will showcase the IPE business solutions that converge with other industries including automobile, finance, and education.

  • Mobile In Vehicle (MIV) for electric vehicles, which attracted much attention at Auto China 2010 last April, enables remote control and management on electric vehicles and battery charging.
  • T Smart Pay, a one-stop mobile payment service, provides not only payments but also a comprehensive management of credit cards, membership cards, and coupons through mobile phones.
Mobile Office provides a mobile working environment for users with electric approvals, corporate intranets, corporate messenger and other functions available through mobile phones. Various functions to realize a wireless working environment for users can be customized for different enterprises.

Furthermore, SK Telecom will also display smartphone-related services to provide a better environment for smartphone users. As SK Telecom announced in April, the company is currently implementing Wi-Fi Free Zone nationwide by utilizing Fixed Wi-Fi Bridge devices, and visitors will be able to experience the Wi-Fi Free Zone at the exhibition. SK Telecom will also showcase T Store, an open marketplace for applications, which supports both of Window Mobile and Android OS. To promote smartphone uses nationwide, SK Telecom will open both Wi-Fi Free Zone and T Store not only for SK Telecom subscribers but also for other carrier users as well.
