Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have developed the world's first air bag system that considered the combined impact as well as the primary crash.

They have supplemented the existing air bag system that recognizes all crashes as independent primary impact in the multi-collision accident.

Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors announced on Jan. 21that they have developed a new air bag system that increased the safety of passengers in complex crash situations.

The composite collision air bag system accurately calculates various conditions, including unstable attitude and speed of the passengers, if the impact is weak enough to prevent the airbags from bursting in the first collision, and in subsequent crashes, it is improved so that the airbags operate more easily and quickly by reducing the reference impact strength or adjusting the point of operation.

"Vehicle safety technology has been advanced one step by improving air bag systems related to composite collision," said a Hyundai Motor official.

They also plan to develop an additional version of the system optimized for new cars to be released in the future and apply it sequentially.
