Samsung Heavy Industries won the year's first order, winning two LNG carriers worth 419.9 billion won. The company announced on Jan. 29 that it has signed a contract to build two 180,000㎥ LNG carriers with the European ship owner Celsius Tankers.
As the carriers will be equipped with eco-friendly and smart technologies such as SAVER Air and INTELLIMAN Ship which are developed by Samsung Heavy Industries, they are expected to efficiently respond to environmental regulations and operate more efficiently.
They are also possible to effectively respond to EU-MRV, IMO-DCS regulations by applying INTELLIMAN Ship, which is a smart ship solution.
The system enables real-time measurement and monitoring of fuel usage and carbon dioxide emissions depending on operating conditions, and data reliability is high as it automatically generates accurate operational reports using accumulated data.
On the other hand, Samsung Heavy Industries set a target of $7.8 billion this year, up 24 percent from last year in line with the recovery of the new global shipbuilding market such as LNG carriers and container ships.
"We are going all out to improve the amount and quality of orders through technology development, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction in all areas, including design, R&D, sales, and production to achieve our goal. Both quantity and quality of orders will be improved through high-value, profitable ship orders such as LNG carriers," said an official of Samsung Heavy Industries.
