Netmarble jumps in the race to take over Nexon. Netmarble made an announcement on Jan. 31 that it reviewed its acquisition of Nexon from two months ago and decided to participate in the race a month ago.
"Nexon's tangible and intangible value is one of Korea's major assets. Accordingly, we decided to form a consortium based on domestic capital to participate in the bidding war to undertake Nexon under the judgment that the overseas sale of Nexon, if realized, is feared to damage the ecosystem and weaken the competitiveness of the Korean game industry," said a Netmarble official.
As Kakao said earlier that it is considering the acquisition of Nexon from various angles, some Korean companies are emerging as the new Nexon acquisition company.
Foreign companies, including Tencent, Alibaba, Disney, Electronic Arts (EA), Softbank and Carlyle, and global private equity funds such as MBK Partners, and KKR are also reportedly considering acquiring Nexon.
