It has been reported on Feb. 12 that Samsung Electronics has tentatively agreed to make additional compensation and repairs in connection with a class-action lawsuit regarding defective washing machines in the U.S.

Samsung Electronics and U.S. retailers Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowes recently agreed on additional compensation issues with law firms that represent consumer class lawsuits.

Targeted products were top-load type washing machines sold in the U.S. from March 2011 to October 2016. The 2.8 million units of the washing machines were recalled after consulting with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in November 2016.

At that time, the recall was based on a series of reports that users were injured due to vibration of the upper cover and its fall.
At that time, Samsung Electronics prepared a compensation program along with free repairs, but the procedure for class action lawsuits began due to complaints from some consumers about follow-up measures.

"The products are not sold on the market anymore," Samsung Electronics said. "We have agreed to avoid unnecessary disputes and costs of lawsuits."
