A team of Korean researchers has developed an emergency rescue service device that can drastically reduce the death rate in the event of a traffic accident. It is expected that it will be able to use it in real life.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced on February 19 that it has developed seven devices that support Emergency Resuce Services (e-Call) as a result of research and development project of 'Vehicle ICT-based Emergency Rescue Devices' by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
E-Call is a service that automatically sends related information such as the location of a vehicle to a control center after a traffic accident.
The researchers believe that e-Call will help reduce the death rate as it can secure golden time for patients at risk faster than before.
Korea has the second highest death rate in traffic accidents among OECD countries, so e-Call service is essential.
It is already recommended that e-Call service devices be installed in foreign countries such as the U.S. and Europe, and mandatory installation of vehicles that are released last year has become legalized.
"By installing e-Call devices, we can greatly reduce the death rate of traffic accidents," said Kim Hyung-joon, director of ETRI's Standard Research Division. "In the future, efforts should be made to overhaul the legal system and establish a control center that requires the installation of devices."
