“Hey Genie, I need a slipper.”
KT announced on February 26 that it introduced 5G 'AI Hotel Robot' at MWC 2019 that was held in Barcelona, Spain. KT's 5G AI Hotel Robot Zone presented a demonstration that the robot self-drives the services ordered by hotel guests.
KT has evolved South Korea's first AI hotel solution that was introduced in July of last year through AI hotel robots.
When an order is placed by voice or touch at a hotel terminal, AI hotel robots deliver various items to the room.
A robot with room supplies will find its own way through a pre-made hotel map.
In this process, elevators can also be boarded to move to another floor, and if you meet a person on the way, you stop for a while or slow down to avoid the side.
KT has applied state-of-the-art technologies such as 3D spatial mapping technology, self-driving technology, and AI cameras that it developed. 5G will also be applied to send information quickly and smoothly. This is because when many robots are used, real-time sharing of map data is required between robots.
It is predicted that AI hotel robots will be implemented in South Korean hotels by end of this year.
KT is planning to start 5G AI hotel robot service by starting 'Nobotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Hotel & Residence', the first AI hotel in Korea.
Users can have a unique experience of requesting items by voice through hotels and taking them by robots.
Visitors who experienced AI hotel robots at MWC also said that they were very interesting. KT expects to receive positive responses from guests who felt burdened by face-to-face service and hotels that need efficiency.
"Based on AI hotel robot technology that was introduced at MWC 2019, this year's goal is to derive a successful case in robot market that is still in its early stages," said Jeon Hong-beom, vice president of KT Convergence Technology Institute. "We will provide differentiated services through connectivity with 5G networks."
