Incheon International Airport Corp. announced on Feb. 26 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for global educational cooperation to foster next-generation aviation experts with Mae Far Luang University at the university in Thailand.
Some 50 officials from both organizations attended the event, including Shin Dong-hwa, head of the Incheon Airport's Global Education Team, and Chayapor Watanasiri, vice president of Mae Far Luang University.
Based on the MOU signing, the corporation is planning to educate some 180 Thai university students from May on "Next Generation Airport Professionals" for the next three years.
The next-generation aviation specialist training program is one of the major training programs being pursued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and aims to foster working knowledge on global aviation policy and airport operations as a whole.
Since 2013, Incheon Airport has operated the training program for domestic and foreign aviation-specialized institutions, with a cumulative total of 1,573 students completing the program.
"In the future, Incheon International Airport will strengthen partnerships with overseas aviation education institutes and develop joint curriculum with professors at universities outside of Korea, and contribute to the development of the aviation industry through the expansion of global education programs," said Chung Il-young, president of Incheon International Airport.
