Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) CEO Kim Hyung held a meeting with Saad Bin Ahmad Al-Muhannadi, president of Ashghal, the Public Works Authority of Qatar, on March 22 at the Daewoo headquarters.
At the meeting, the Ashghal president expressed his gratitude for Daewoo employees' hard work, saying, "We are very satisfied with Daewoo E&C's ongoing E-Ring Road project in Qatar." He also asked Daewoo to fully focus on safety and quality control until the remaining completion date.
The E-Ring Road project is a $620 million project to build an eight to 14 lanes of road, consisting of an existing road expansion (4.5 kilometers) section and a new road (4.0 kilometers) section on the southern outskirts of Doha, Qatar's capital, for the Qatar's 2022 World Cup.
Daewoo E&C won an order in September 2016 to build the E-Ring Highway in recognition of its high ability proved to carry out construction on the New Orbital Highway.
The Ashghal president made an in-depth inquiry into Daewoo's ongoing public-private-private partnership overseas, and expressed interest in Daewoo's various overseas construction experiences and advanced construction technologies.
"Qatar is pushing for construction of various infrastructure, including roads and railways, in preparation for the 2022 World Cup," said a Daewoo official. "Daewoo E&C maintains friendly relations with the Public Works Authority, its main supplier, by carrying out a number of construction projects in Qatar without a hitch, which has the effect of preempting a number of infrastructure construction orders that are expected to be placed in the future," he explained.
