SK Innovation is going to invest 430 billion won in Poland to build LiBS (Lithium-ion Battery Separator) plant. SK Innovation announced on March 27 that it will expand investment to help the rapid growth of its material business, which will be spun off from April 1.
The plant, to be built in sillongseukeu in Poland, will be built on the lot of 340 million square meters, similar in size to China's Changzhou plant. Construction will begin in the third and fourth quarters of this year and start mass-production in the third and fourth quarters of 2021.
The total annual production of LiBS for SK Innovation's material projects will be expanded to about 1.21 billion square meters when the Chinese and Polish plants are completed. In addition to the 11 production lines, the Jeungpyeong plant will have a total of 13 production facilities as it is expanding two additional production facilities with the aim of completing them around November this year.
Once completed, the plant will increase its annual output to a total of 530 million square meters from the current 360 million square meters.
As a result, SK Innovation's material business challenge to become the No. 1 global wet-type LiBS market after its spin-off is expected to gain further momentum.
