Open the first subscriber line at 11 p.m. on April 3rd, beating Verizon

South Korea succeeded in commercializing the world's first 5G network on April 3, earlier than scheduled. Although 5G was initially planned to be commercialized on the 5th, it believes that there is no need to delay further as both handsets and 5G rate systems are in place.

The three mobile telecommunication providers -- SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus -- started opening 5G smartphone subscribers at 11 p.m. on April 3. It seems that it has opened its first subscriber line, which is secured by each company. The opening of regular subscribers will begin at midnight on April 5. The three mobile telecommunication providers will launch the Galaxy S10 5G from the morning of April 4 to recruit subscribers for ordinary customers.

In time for the release of 5G smartphones, the three mobile telecom providers have been stepping up efforts to commercialize the world's first 5G service as they have continuously announced the 5G rate system.

The commercialization of the world's first 5G can be seen as a joint venture between the government and the handset maker, the three mobile telecom providers.

The government sought to commercialize the world's first 5G last month, but set its goal for April 5, later than scheduled, as it suffered a setback in the handset supply schedule.

However, as the three mobile communication providers announced a series of 5G plans, Samsung Electronics also started opening 5G smartphones on April 3 as the government is aware that there are no problems in supplying 5G smartphones.

As a result, South Korea will secure the title of the world's first country to commercialize 5G. Although Verizon of the U.S., which announced its commercialization of 5G on April 11, is reportedly moving up its schedule to April 4, it is now possible to retain its first title in the world as the three mobile telecom providers are set to open 5G smartphones on April 3.

South Korea has been leading commercialization of 5G for the past two to three years, creating global standards and leading technologies. KT showed off its technological prowess by introducing various 5G trial services during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics last year, while the three mobile telecom providers also received global attention at the MWC held in Barcelona, Spain, in February.
