Daelim Energy announced on April 15 that it has started the commercial operation of its solar power plants in Santa Rosa, Chile. The project is one of the Chilean solar energy businesses that acquired the business rights in December 2018, and was the first to start commercial operations.
Daelim Energy plans to build and operate 12 9MW solar power plants across central and northern Chile. In accordance with Chile's distributed power policy, it supplies electricity directly to the region and the government purchases all the power produced.
Daelim Energy expects to generate additional profits through sales through power generation and carbon emission trading based on the supply of renewable energy for 25 years after commercial operation.
Daelim Energy has invested 50 million U.S. dollars in this project and is pushing for it on its own. It manages the entire project that costs about $180 million. In March, the company raised 130 million U.S. dollars, or about 72 percent of its business expenses, through project financing.
Meanwhile, Daelim Chairman Lee Hae-wook is pushing for the developer project in various fields, including energy, petrochemicals and hotels, as the new growth engine. Daelim Energy has been growing fast since its establishment in December 2013 for power generation developers, securing about 4.2 GW of facilities in South Korea, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Jordan and Chile.
“Daelim Energy is recognized for its business capacity not only at home but also abroad as a developer in the power generation and energy sectors, one of the group's major growth engines,” said an official at Daelim.
