KT is going to start full-scale self-driving business based on 5G network.
KT unveiled a mini-shuttle dedicated to self-driving and a 5G remote control system called "5G Remote Cockpit" at the World IT Show 2019 along with Unmand Solution, a company specializing in self-driving.
KT also announced that it will push for customized self-driving commercial services specialized in various environments such as theme parks and industrial complexes. The self-driving mini-shuttle "WITH:US", unveiled by KT and Unmand Solution, is the world's first 5G-based self-driving shuttle introduced at the Seoul Motor Show in March.
It has a remote control system that supports safe operation through KT's 5G-based remote self-driving and control technology. Based on self-driving-only shuttle and 5G-based remote control system technologies, KT is going to push for self-driving businesses such as indoor and outdoor and theme parks and industrial complexes starting from this year.
For example, the company is going to push for a one- or two-passenger fully autonomous mobility project for the elderly, disabled, infants and patients in indoor spaces. It also plans to introduce AMR (Automated Mobility Robot), which is exclusively responsible for logistics at industrial sites such as factories and logistics centers, by the end of this year.
"KT plans to lead commercial self-driving services in earnest by combining full self-driving technology and remote control system based on 5G network," said Choi Kang-lim, executive director of KT's connected car Biz Center.
