Samsung Electronics lost its top spot in sales to Intel in the fourth quarter of last year, and the possibility of Samsung Electronics losing its top spot in operating profit has increased in the first quarter of this year

According to Intel's latest earnings data released on its official website, its sales in the first quarter remained at 16.1 billion dollars (about 18.7 trillion won), and operating profit fell 7 percent to 4.2 billion dollars(about 4.9 trillion won) from the same period a year ago.

According to a securities firm's report published after the announcement of Samsung Electronics' provisional performance on April 5, the first quarter sales and operating profit of Samsung Electronics' semiconductor division are expected to be 15.9 trillion won and 4.5 trillion won, respectively, both of which are below Intel's.

Although Intel's operating profit fell, it seems that Intel beat Samsung Electronics in terms of profitability as the fall in Samsung's semiconductor division that ended "memory boom" was so huge.

However, Samsung Electronics announced on April 24 that it will invest 133 trillion won in non-memory semiconductors that have relatively high price stability.

It is predicted that the non-memory war of the "Big 2" will continue as Samsung has set its goal of becoming number one in non-memory by 2030.
