Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), led by Choe Gyu-ha, invited officials from Japanese power-related institutions and universities to the institute to explore ways to cooperate.

KERI said on May 31 that a total of 12 officials from Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI), three universities (Meisei, Meiji and Waseda), NGK Insulators and CSD in Japan visited KERI in Changwon.

The meeting, which was conducted under the guidance of KERI's research vice president Yoo Dong-wook, was designed to explore ways to exchange technologies in the electric power sector and cooperate between Korea and Japan.

It was arranged in the order of technology presentations by leading researchers of Korea and Japan and researchers' tour to KERI facilities.

KERI has had close ties with the CRIEPI. The two institutions have held the East Asia Electric Technology Research Workshop together with the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPPI) and the Taiwan Power Research Institute (TPRI) every year, and have continued to conduct technical exchanges.

Last year, about 30 technical papers in five areas - Renewable Energy, Maintenance, Smart Distribution Network, Testing & Measurement, and Materials & Battery - were published in Sendai, Japan. This year, it is scheduled to be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in late November.

"We will further strengthen international cooperation with advanced institutions in the fields of international joint research and technology to become the world's highest-level electricity research institute," said Vice President Yoo.

Meanwhile, KERI is a government-funded research institute specializing in electricity under National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST), the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communication.
