Lotte Mart signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Canadian government to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including the expanded operation of Canadian agricultural products and agrifood.
Lee Won-joon, head of the Lotte Group distribution business unit (BU), Lotte Mart CEO Moon Young-pyo, Canadian Minister of International Trade Diversification James Gordon Carr, and Canadian Ambassador to Korea Michael Danaher attended the signing ceremony of the MOU held at Lotte World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul on June 10.
Since the Korea-Canada Free Trade Agreement, which took effect in January 2015, Lotte Mart has been actively importing and selling Canadian goods such as canola oil, lobsters and hemp seed.
Through the signing of the MOU this time, it will share close information with Canada to promote the competitiveness of Canadian goods here and expand import items, a Lotte Mart official said.
At the same time, Lotte Mart will be provided with information from Canada's agricultural and agrifood companies through cooperation with the Trade Commission Service affiliated with the Canadian federal government.
Meanwhile, Trade Commission Service and related agencies in various Canadian states have pledged to set the stage by planning programs for Lotte Mart's purchasing managers so that they can showcase excellent Canadian products in Korea, he said.
