Driving on roads without license plates
BMW Korea CEO Han Sang-yoon

BMW Korea's official dealer, Deutsch Motors, is in dispute over the operation of  BMW/MINI unregistered vehicles that do not have a license plate attached on the road near Starfield, Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province, in the afternoon of April 31, according to the latest issue of Weekly Today.

The act is a clear violation of the Automobile Management Act and the Road Traffic Act. Under the act, vehicles without license plates are not allowed to operate at all, except when a temporary license plate is attached.

Since unregistered cars are uninsured, it is difficult to rescue the victims as the liability for compensation in the event of a traffic accident is unclear.

Employees of Deutsch Motors directly drove more than 10 vehicles. "Deutsch Motors was moving its consignment vehicles in this way as it has been. Even though BMW Korea was aware of the illegal activities, but it was acquiescing to them," the media reported.

"We already know that the normal road occupancy and unregistered driving are illegal," a Deutsch Motors official was quoted as saying by the media. "The management of BMW is aware of this."

The BMW side also claimed that it was too much to see it as illegal driving and that it was right to see it as a "movement."
Meanwhile, BMW Korea was hit hard by a massive car fire last year and was fined 14.5 billion won by a court for manipulating emissions test results in 2011.

With the latest controversy over illegal driving, the falling brand image of BMW Korea is expected to be inevitable.
