LG Uplus will join hands with U.S. PTC Corporation, a leader in global Internet of Things and augmented reality solutions, to develop smart agricultural services utilizing information and communication technologies.

LG Uplus said on June 25 that it will develop a smart agricultural service called "Trackter Remote Diagnosis" by building a "digital Twin platform" after merging its 5G technologies with PTC's IoT and AR technologies.

Starting with the agricultural sector, the two companies will also explore new business opportunities in smart factory and smart city areas.

The Digital Twin, which is selected by market research company Gartner as one of the top 10 strategic technologies this year, is a technology that implements real-world objects in virtual worlds equally. This technology can be used to monitor, maintain, and effectively manage equipment in the virtual world.

LG Uplus and PTC Korea signed a strategic business agreement at LG Uplus' Magok office on June 25 to establish a 5G-based digital Twin platform. Through IoT sensors installed on tractors, both companies collect and analyze information on vehicle engine consumables, real-time operating data, and history of operation maintenance and repair. As a result, customers can be notified immediately of component failure and defects, and they can check the timing of replacement of parts and consumables.

In particular, since the parts of the tractor are implemented in AR, it is possible to check the location and details on the smartphone app if abnormal symptoms are found in the parts. AR also shows how to replace tractor parts and consumables, making it easy for you to replace parts yourself.

"We will present a blueprint for smart farming through cooperation with PTC, which has an unrivaled position in the field of digital Twin technology," said Lee Hae-sung, head of LG Uplus' Future Technology Development Group.
