The case of Cho Hyun-ah, a 45-year-old former vice president of Korean Air who allegedly assaulted her husband and abused her child, has been handed over to the prosecution.
The Seou Suseo Police Station said on June 26 that it sent Cho's alleged injury charge under the Criminal Law to the prosecution with a view to indicting her and some charges of child abuse under the Child Welfare Act.
In February, Cho's husband, identified only by his surname Park, filed a complaint with the police on suspicion of injury, saying Cho had strangled himself and threw a tablet PC on the grounds that she was angry, causing the fat of his big toe to fall off.
Park also filed a complaint against the former vice president for child abuse, claiming that she verbally abused their children because they did not eat fast or try to fall asleep.
Park submitted photos and videos of the damage as evidence to the police and the court in charge of divorce proceedings.
Cho married Park, a plastic surgeon who is an elementary school classmate, in October 2010 and has twin children.
Park filed a suit with the Seoul Family Court in April last year, seeking the designation of a fosterer along with a divorce suit, saying it is difficult to continue his marriage due to Cho's frequent assaults and abusive language. The two have reportedly been separated since May 2017.
Shortly after Park's complaint, Cho's lawyer issued a statement of stance and denied the allegations, saying, "There was no physical or mental abuse of her children. The marriage broke up due to Park's alcohol and drug addiction problems, his indifference to his children and neglect."
