The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on June 13 that it has unveiled the list of construction companies with many deaths during the construction work based on the 2018 industrial accident confirmation.
The criteria for determining industrial accidents are statistics prepared based on not when the accident occurred but when the accident was confirmed as industrial disaster.
Among builders, POSCO E&C had the highest death toll with 10, with Hyundai Engineering & Construction, the second largest with 7. GS Engineering & Construction and Bando Engineering & Construction came next with four, followed by Daewoo, Lotte, Taeyoung, Hanshin, Doosan and Daebang Engineering & Construction with three.
Among the order offices, Korea Electric Power Corp. had the highest death toll with 12, followed by Korea Land and Housing Corp. with nine. Korea Highway Corp. came next with eight, followed by Korea Rural Community Corp. with five.
Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kim Hyun-mee said that the role of key construction contractors, such as the ordering office, licensing agencies and contractors, is very important to drastically reduce deaths at construction sites.
