Samsung Heavy Industries said on July 1 that it has won a 134.8 billion won (120 million U.S. dollars) order for a special-purpose ship from a European company on condition of an approval from the board of directors. The affected vessel is scheduled to be delivered in March 2022.

Including the deal, Samsung Heavy has won orders totaling 14 ships, including 10 LNG carriers, two crude oil carriers, one special ship and one FPSO, to achieve 41 percent of this year's target of $7.8 billion.

This is 28 percent higher than the $2.5 billion worth of orders received during the same period last year. Analysts say that the company is continuing its favorable winning of orders this year, focused on ships whose value is high.

In particular, orders for LNG carriers account for 10 out of 24 large (170,000 ㎥or higher) LNG carriers ordered in the first half of the year based on Clackson Research, and their quality competitiveness as "LNG carriers" is recognized in the market.

"We are planning to win orders for large-scale container ships and offshore plants as well as large-scale LNG carriers in the latter half of the year. We will make best efforts to achieve the target," said an official for Samsung Heavy Industries.
