Sony Interactive Entertainment Korea, which sells its electronic game machine "PlayStation(PS) 4," will be fined 500 times the fee for charging 1,000 won to a customer who demand a refund of the 3,000-won product.

On July 14, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) said it fined Sony 500,000 won and issued a warning for its violation of the e-commerce law.

Users of the PS4 must first buy a virtual prepaid card to buy games or items online and charge their virtual account "wallet" with the card. You can buy a game in the online store with the money you put in your wallet.

According to the FTC, a PS4 user bought a prepaid card worth 3,000 won last year and did not use it and applied for a refund. However, when Sony withdrew 1,000 won from the total money as the cancellation fee and returned only 2,000 won, the man reported the Sony to the Fair Trade Commission.

The FTC ruled that cancellation fees cannot be charged when refunds are given out of simple changes by customers in e-commerce.

In addition, during the investigation, the FTC found that Sony did not properly display the refund rules stipulated in the terms and conditions on the payment screen.

In response, Sony took corrective measures by displaying detailed regulations regarding refunds on screens that guide the payment of prepaid cards and the charging of wallets.
