LG Uplus (vice chairman Ha Hyun-hoi) announced that it succeeded in commercial testing of 5G roaming for the first time in the world on July 2 in Finland and will start its service on July 19.
LG Uplus will provide roaming services to its customers using LG Electronics' V50 ThinkQ smartphones at 5G speeds in Finland through a partnership with Elisa, Finland's No. 1 wired and wireless carrier with 6 million subscribers, starting July 19.
After providing VoLTE roaming service for the first time in the world in 2015, the company also succeeded in commercializing 5G roaming for the first time in the world, proving once again the world's best technology.
To mark the first launch of the 5G roaming service, the company will hold a free experience event for 5G roaming services to customers leaving to Finland and introduce a 5G roaming fee system.
Elisa visited LG Uplus on June 24 to examine current status of 5G network establishment and quality improvement activities. It was also the first Nordic country to commercialize 5G service in June through benchmarking such as deployment strategy and operational know-how.
LG Uplus plans to expand its 5G roaming services gradually through active cooperation with leading mobile communication partners in Europe and Asia, allowing customers to use its high-speed data services overseas as well.
"LG Uplus will continue to offer top-quality roaming services that allow customers to meet roaming services overseas as well, " said Kim Si-young, an official at LG Uplus's MVNO/foreign service unit.
