Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited Samsung Electronics' Onyang campus (based in Asan, South Chungcheong Province) on August 6 and started management.
In an emergency meeting of presidents of Samsung Semiconductor, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Samsung SDI at Samsung Electronics' operations on Aug. 5, Vice Chairman Lee expressed his intention to start management by visiting Samsung operations in South Korea from Aug. 6.
Vice-Chairman Lee chose Onyang Business Complex as his first stop for semiconductor and display because of concerns about possible supply disruptions of key materials and parts due to tougher sanctions on Japanese exports.
Under these circumstances, the vice chairman is known to have personally looked into whether Samsung's semiconductor products have an impact on the final process.
During the meeting, Lee reportedly discussed plans to respond to the crisis caused by the Japanese government's exclusion of Korea from white countries and ways to strengthen its competitiveness.
Vice Chairman Lee toured a package development facility in charge of the back-end process of semiconductors, along with Vice Chairman Kim Ki-nam of Device Solution, Vice President Paik Hong-joo of TSP, and President Jin Kyo-young of Memory Business Department.
"Vice Chairman Lee will continue his business trip to Pyeongtaek, Giheung, and Samsung Display, starting with Onyang operations," said a Samsung source.
