Dongwon Group held a luncheon at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square in Pittsburgh on Aug. 13 (local time) to express its gratitude to the Korean War veterans and their families.
About 80 Korean War veterans from western Pennsylvania, their families, Congressman Mike Doyle and Senator Pam Iovino attended the luncheon.
The event was followed by congratulatory speech, the presentation of works by photographer Michal Sahaida, who works for veterans, and a medal ceremony for peace delivered to veterans.
"The war veterans are heroes. It is an honor to express this kind of gratitude to you for your dedication to freedom," said Andrew Choe, president of StarKist who attended the event.
"We express our deep gratitude to Dongwon Group and StarKist that acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of the war veterans and hold such a good event every year," said Jack Rosenberger, president of the veterans' association.
StarKist is the largest brand in the U.S. market for processed tuna and was acquired by Dongwon Group in 2008. Since its acquisition by Dongwon Group, StarKist has been conducting various activities for Korean War veterans in the region.
It sponsors various programs for veterans and their families, and has organized volunteer groups to regularly clean up around the memorial for veterans.
