Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) has won a $70.35 million order to build a road in the southern Basra in Iraq.
This is the third order for the Iraqi region this year following the first-phase construction of the container terminal in Al Faw New Port in the first half of the year and additional construction order for breakwater.
On Aug. 29, President Aziz Hashim of the Port Authority of Iraq, located in Basra, and Park Cheol-ho, an executive of Daewoo E&C, signed a private contract to build a road to Al Faw in Iraq.
The new road will be built in the southern Iraqi province of Al Faw, which will create a 14.6-kilometer-long access road linking the existing road to the road in the Al Faw new port, and will last 19 months after construction.
"This is the infrastructure project for the new port of Al Faw, where Daewoo E&C is building. We expect to win additional orders for various types of construction, including the construction of an immersed tunnel, terminal construction and the rear complex," a Daewoo official said. "We will actively seek to win large-scale reconstruction orders from Iraq as well as development projects for the Al Faw new port."
The official said government-level supports, including the Korean embassy in Iraq and the president's special adviser on foreign affairs, had a positive impact on the order.
