Kim Jong-kap, president of Korea Electric Power Corp.(KEPCO), participated in the World Energy Conference (WEC) held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on Sept. 9, and signed an MOU with the UAE Barakah One Company (BOC) to cooperate in advancing nuclear power plants in a third country.
President Kim, who attended the panel discussion at the WEC, talked with leaders of global energy companies about how to adapt to the era of energy conversion, the sustainability of nuclear power, the challenges of nuclear power, and ways to overcome them.
In addition, Kim met with major high-level officials from governments and businesses at the international conference to discuss comprehensive cooperation measures in the energy sector, and to continue to explore the scope of cooperation in new energy projects, including not only nuclear power plants but also smart grid, energy storage system (ESS), and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
President Kim signed an MOU on Sept. 10 with Nasser O. Al Nasseri, CEO of the BOC, UAE, to cooperate in joint advancement into a third country with nuclear power plants.
By signing MOUs, they established a foundation for cooperation in a wide range of areas, including investment and financing, licensing, human resources development, and localization, in the global new nuclear power plant market.
"In the future, the two companies will actively seek cooperative measures to advance into third countries' nuclear power plants by utilizing their experience and knowledge accumulated in the UAE nuclear power plant project, and this will serve as an opportunity for Korea and UAE to strengthen their cooperative relationship in the nuclear energy," Kim said.
"In addition, we have repeatedly confirmed that we will actively cooperate with each other for the timely completion and stable operation of the UAE nuclear power plant," he added.
