LG Uplus said on Sept. 16 that it will provide 5G roaming services in partnership with China Unicom, a Chinese mobile communication operator.

LG Uplus has partnered with China Unicom, one of China's top three telecommunication companies with 302 million subscribers, and is going to test-run 5G roaming service for its 5G customers starting at 00:00 Korean time on the 16th.

The official launch of the service will be timed to coincide with the end of September when China Unicom will officially commercializes 5G.

China Unicom launched 5G services in May in seven major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and has been providing 5G trial services in 40 major cities in China since August based on 17,000 base stations.

LG Uplus and China Unicom had been conducting 5G roaming tests in China since June after concluding talks between the two companies on the 5G roaming linkage in April. As the pilot commercial network link is completed on Aug. 16, LG Uplus 5G subscribers will be able to use 5G roaming in China from Sept. 16.

LG Uplus is currently providing 5G roaming services in Finland and China, and the number of countries that it provides 5G roaming service will gradually expand through active cooperation with leading overseas mobile communication partners in Europe and Asia. Afterwards, the company plans to review the 5G roaming fee system by analyzing customers' roaming experiences.
