Ssangyong E&C has applied the "Digital Construction Management Platform," which allows workers to check construction status in real time based on QR code, to the site of the Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences in Dubai.

By scanning QR code attached to a wall of a building through app for smart devices, it can display comments on each process, record photos, send alarms to the person in charge of subsequent operations immediately after completion of pre-emptive work, and visualize cloud data accumulated up to 100 gigabytes (GB) as charts or graphs.

Ssangyong E&C said it has developed the system in cooperation with Sablono, a German company specializing in construction management software.

The reason why the system was introduced was because it was difficult to identify and share the progress of construction at the Royal Atlantis Hotel, which has an average of 10,000 workers per day. The site has an average of 10,000 workers per day working at about 3,300 locations.

After attaching about 2,700 QR codes to workspaces with walls such as rooms and corridors, the company explained that it was possible to inject follow-up processes immediately after checking the progress of the advanced works by work space.

At the site of the Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences in Dubai, 109 pools will be built with a unique exterior that looks like a pile of bricks. Three 24-story, 34-story and 44-story-high hotels will be built, 795 rooms and three 21-story, 28-story and 38-story residences and 231 houses will be constructed. The construction cost is 1 trillion won, which is unusual for a single hotel construction.

"Only when work is connected between leading and trailing processes properly, we can prevent a delay in the construction period and secure safe construction," said an official of Ssangyong E&C. "We expect that the QR code-based system will greatly reduce the cost and time spent on identifying situations at the site and increase productivity."
