Korea's first regular PGA Tour event, The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges, finished the third competition amid favorable reviews.

CJ Group said on Oct. 20 that a total of 47,000 people visited the venue at the CJ Cup held at Club Nine Bridges on Jeju Island for four days from Oct. 17. It was broadcast to 1 billion households in 226 countries worldwide.

The CJ Cup has grown into a competition highly praised by international players after three rounds of competitions. Analysts say that the level of players, preparation for and management of competitions, has settled down in a stable manner.

"This is the result of all the relevant organizations of the CJ team's efforts to make the best competition," said Ty Votaw, president of the PGA Tour's international division, who appeared on the broadcast. "This is why the passion of Korean fans for golf and CJ's special hospitality, including food and hotels, brings the world's best players back to the tournament."

If three out of the top 10 players in the world rankings participated in the first competition, five out of the top 10 players, including world No. 1 Brooks Koepka, visited Jeju this year. Also, world-class players such as Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas gave rave reviews about the Club Nine Bridges where the competition took place, comparing it to the Masters' "Augusta National Golf Club."

"Because it is still an event with a short history, we tried to win the hearts of players, PGA Tours, and galleries with CJ's differentiated details," said Kyung Wook-ho, vice president of CJ's marketing office, which oversaw the operation of the event. "We will enhance the national brand through The CJ Cup and contribute to the growth of the region and related industries."

The CJ Cup, the only regular PGA Tour event in South Korea, will be held for 10 years until 2026, starting with the first event in 2017. The total prize money for the tournament was $9.75 million, the highest level except for major tournaments.
