At the 10th Wholesale Agreements and Solutions (WAS) conference in Valencia, Spain, LG Uplus announced on Oct. 31 the success story of 5G roaming under the theme "Enjoy 5G Experience" for representatives of global mobile carriers.
The WAS conference, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, is a meeting organized twice a year by the GSMA. Mobile carriers from around the world under GSMA will gather to focus on roaming services such as mutual roaming contracts between operators, development of service infrastructure and linkage of new services.
LG Uplus was the only mobile network operator in the world to announce success in launching 5G roaming services such as the current status of 5G roaming service and plans to link handsets to about 1,200 officials
Following the world's first successful 5G network linkage test with Elisa, Finland, in July, the company has been providing 5G roaming services in three countries since September through partnerships with China Unicom and Switzerland's Sunrise.
"As there is a request from GSMA to share know-how on success, we attended a WAS conference and announced an excellent case for 5G roaming service." said LG Uplus.
The company is to continue expanding the types of mobile phones. Customers who use LG Electronics' V50 and V50S mobile phones can have 5G roaming in all three countries. Customers who use 5G mobile phones such as Samsung Electronics's Galaxy S10, Note 10 5G, Note 10+ and Galaxy Fold will complete the 5G network link for use in Finland and Switzerland in October. Also, 5G roaming will be supported in China during November.
