SK Telecom said it won the "The Innovation Award Operator" at the World Communication Awards (WCA) held in London on the evening of October 30.
The WCA was first established in 1999 by Total Telecom, a British telecom-specialized media outlet, and annually selects companies that have achieved outstanding achievements in a total of 25 areas, including technology, brands and content, for carriers and manufacturers worldwide.
WCA selected SK Telecom's "T Advanced Next Generation Operational Supporting System (TANGO)" as the Innovation Award Operator.
TANGO is an artificial intelligence-based platform that was developed by SK Telecom to establish telecommunication network and automate control. This year alone, it has won a number of global awards, including "Telecom Asia Awards" and "TechXLR8 Asia."
SK Telecom, in particular, said TANGO was highly praised for its contribution to establishing an efficient nationwide 5G network by accumulating network know-how, including more than 10 million buildings, roads and topographical data, in its database.
"With this award, SK Telecom has been recognized once again for its global technology leadership in 5G field," said Director Park Jin-hyo of SK Telecom's ICT Technology Center. "we will become a leading company in 5G and 6G era based on world's best 5G technologies."
