Lee Jae-yong, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, met with Prof. Yoshua Bengio of Montreal University and Prof. Sebatian Seung of Princeton University, both of them are world-renowned experts in AI (Artificial Intelligence), and discussed the future direction of the AI industry development and Samsung Electronics' AI strategy.

"Let's break down the limits of our thinking and take a preoccupation with the future so that we can realize our bigger dreams," Lee said.

Prof. Yoshua Bengio, who leads the research on deep learning, is one of the world's top four gurus in the field of AI, along with Prof. Geoffrey Hinton of Toronto University, Prof. Yann Lecun of New York University, and Prof. Andrew Ng of Stanford University.

Pro. Bengio is an authority in the development of recurrent neural network design and learning algorithms for next-generation voice recognition performance innovation, and won the Turing Award, dubbed the Nobel Prize in computer science, in 2018.

Samsung Electronics established an artificial intelligence lab in Montreal in 2017 and is jointly developing AI algorithms such as video/voice recognition and self-driving technology.

Prof. Bengio participated in Samsung AI Forum 2019 held for two days from Oct. 4 to 5, introducing core technologies in deep learning such as meta running and strengthening learning.

Prof. Sebatian Seung is a world-class scholar who pioneered brain neuroscience-based artificial intelligence research that mimics brain activity, and has been working as a chief-research-scientist for Samsung since 2018 and consulting on Samsung's AI strategy and leading research.

Last year, Samsung Group announced its plan to select AI, 5G, and semiconductor for electric fields as its future growth businesses and invest about 25 trillion won to nurture them.

In particular, Samsung Electronics established AI research centers in five countries by last year, including South Korea, the U.S., Britain, Russia and Canada, to strengthen its capabilities in the AI sector, a key technology of the fourth industrial revolution.
