The BIXPO 2019 for energy transition & digital transformation, which will lead the future of the energy industry, was held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju on Nov. 6, the KEPCO said.
The fifth BIXPO started at Kim Dae-jung Convention Center for a three-day run until Nov. 8 with more than 1,000 domestic and foreign guests attending the opening ceremony.
The theme of BIXPO 2019 is the "Digital Platform (Hyper-Connectivity & Mega Shift)," which means a huge change in the global energy industry that takes place in a hyper-connected society where everything is closely connected based on digital, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), the Big Data, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Various events will be held at this year's BIXPO, including a new technology exhibition involving 299 companies, 51 international conferences, and an international invention patent competition and job fair.
In addition, Seoul National University Prof. Cha Sang-gyun, a world-renowned authority on big data, made a keynote speech at the opening ceremony to present his outlook for the future of energy.
At the opening ceremony, KEPCO CEO Kim Jong-kap said, "I hope you can imagine the dramatic and enormous changes that the future look and power of a hyper-connected society that has been closely connected digitally such as Internet of Things, Big Data and artificial intelligence will bring to society as a whole," he said, adding, "I hope the BIXPO 2019 event will be a treasure map that will open up new horizons for the power industry."
