LG Chem has built the nation's largest technology center specializing in petrochemicals in Osan, Gyeonggi Province. LG Chem said on Nov. 11 that it has invested a total of 110 billion won to relocate its technology center, formerly on the site of the Daejeon Institute of Technology, to Osan.
The tech center is a specialized organization dedicated to LG Chem that conducts technical solution support and development work for customers and business partners who purchase petrochemical products. Daejeon tech center was established in 1995.
The Osan Tech Center is a five-story building with a floor space of 23,000 square meters on a 43,000-square-meter site, the size of six football fields. It has major research centers and 60 specialized laboratories and exhibition rooms.
Around 200 research and development personnel, including those dedicated to each major product, will be stationed there. It has also moved related sales departments and will be able to speed up its response to overseas customers by taking merit of its advantages adjacent to airports in the Seoul metropolitan area.
"The establishment of the Osan tech center will serve as an opportunity to provide advanced technologies to customers at adjacent hubs and realize true customer value," said Son Ok-dong, president of LG Chem's petrochemical business division.
"We will operate it as a technical service mecca that also provides technology solutions to global customers through continuous exchanges with Hwanam Tech Center, which we established in Guangdong, China in 2015."
