Taejeon Group and TLC teen school held an award ceremony for the "2019 Meister High School Book Review Contest" at Seoul Robot High School on Wednesday.
This year's competition was organized by Taejeon Group and sponsored by Taejeon Group's affiliates such as TAEJEON Pharm, TJ Pharm, O&K, AOK and TJHC. The plan was designed to help teens understand the flow of society by encountering humanities and form a steady reading habit.
Taejeon Group, which previously declared its management of humanities at home and abroad, has continued its in-house discussion culture since 2007 in which all executives and employees read a book of humanities and share the results of their reflection.
Through the event, dubbed "Canmeeting," executives and employees of Taejeon Group have shared about 72,000 book reviews so far, fostering collective intelligence.
In this year's competition, which was held for students attending Seoul Bot High School, Choi Seung-hyun (2nd grade) received the grand prize (Taejeon Group chairman Award).
Choi Ho-in (2nd grade) finished second (Taejeon Group vice chairman Award). In addition, Kim Min-hyuk, Kim Moo-jin, Jang Hyun-woo and Choi Min-woo (first grader) won the award for presidents of their respective affiliates, following Kim Jun-hong (2nd graders).
The judges are composed of the management team of the TLC teen school and teachers of the Seoul Robot High School's career education department.
The review team selected "Korea, Japan, 2000's Destiny"(KBS Special History Documentary Team) as a designated book and received applications for about a month.
In particular, the book review contest included posting reviews on SNS and discussing ideas among participants.
"At first, it was burdensome to let people know what I think online, but I felt that my vision was getting wider while exchanging opinions on the topic of books," said Choi Seung-hyun, who won the grand prize. "In the future, I want to share my thoughts with others, not just reading books."
"We hope that scientific gifted person will develop not only engineering knowledge but also humanities," said Oh Young-seok, vice chairman of Taejeon Group. "In addition, we will create various opportunities for teenagers to see the world outside the classroom so that they can become social innovators."
