Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has won an order for an additional LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier. SHI said in a regulatory filing on Nov. 25 that it has won a $1.5 billion order for an LNG carrier from the Eurasian region.
Under the conditional contract, the company has signed a deal for LNG carrier for a total of 1.78 trillion won. The contract period will be until September 2022.
With the signing of the contract, the company's accumulated orders this year increased to $6.9 billion. The figure exceeds last year's total orders of $6.3 billion, or 88 percent of this year's $7.8 billion order target.
By type of ship, the total is 37 vessels, including 13 LNG carriers (without this contract), six container ships, 14 crude oil carriers, two petrochemical product carriers, one special ship, and one floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
"It is predicted that orders for LNG carriers and crude oil carriers will continue due to environmental regulations," a SHI official said. "We will do our best for the rest of the year to achieve our order target."
