Korea IT Services Speed Up to Enter Global Projects

Korea IT service is going to speed up entering global projects. The 'Global Smart SOS Initiative 2010' is held on June 25 in COEX and 72 officials from 20 countries such as Bangladesh Dubai, Morocco, Israel, Japan and more will participate in this event.

This event is sponsored by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and KOTRA and organized by NIA (National Information Society Agency).

At this event, USD 29 billion of 61 overseas projects about u-City, e-government, u-Health and IT being implemented will be introduced. In the morning of the 25th June, a conference will be held to introduce Korea Information experiences and practices and world smart SOC development status.

In the afternoon, more than 200 domestic companies including Samsung SDS, LG CNS officials will have one-on-one talks and 12 overseas IT project briefings will be held. Also, 20 Japanese government officials and domestic officials will have a ' Korean-Japanese E-government Cooperation Seminar'.

Meanwhile, yesterday, four major projects signed MOU agreements. Such as, Samsung SDS and the Interior Ministry of Mozambique signed an agreement to promote the national administration network expansion project, and will take part in the upgrading national portals and office automation projects for local governments. In addition, SAATECH, a Nigerian Company, will sign an MOU agreement, the size of USD 6 million, with GS Telecom.

An official from KOTRA said, "In the event, many projects which Korean firms can take part in, in IT services among foreign SOC projects will be introduced." And he continued, "In order to advance this field, cooperation between large and small businesses is necessary."

KOTRA has been working on 'software overseas cooperation consortiums' in collaboration with NIPA (National IT Industry Promotion Agency), KOSA (Korea Software Industry Association) and ITSA (Korea Information Technology Service Industry Association) since May and 438 software companies will participate in the consortium.
