The "Wind–AI" system, an aviation information analysis system developed by Asiana Airlines in 2019, won the Prime Minister Award at the 26th Corporate Innovation Awards ceremony.

Ahn Byung-seok, executive vice president of Asiana Airlines' management support division, participated in the 26th Corporate Innovation Awards ceremony held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul on Dec. 9 to win the Prime Minister Award given to companies that have achieved outstanding managerial innovation.

Asiana Airlines' entry to the "Corporate Innovation Awards" is a "Wind–AI" system that analyzes aviation information using artificial intelligence. The system was developed with Asiana IDT, and the "Comprehensive Control Division," which is in charge of overall safety operations of the aircraft, introduces AI to provide the aircraft in operation by classifying and analyzing the data of the NOTAM (Notice to Airman) and weather information, including changes in aviation facilities, work and procedures, more than 10,000 times a day.

As the 'Wind-AI' system analyzes the changing weather information in real time quickly and accurately, the number of flights that had to fly back due to weather has decreased by 10%.

It also propagated more quickly unexpected weather changes or restrictions to the aircraft in operation to reduce the possibility of violating the rules of operation.

In addition, the efficiency of information analysis has improved by 70 to 80 percent, as AI has replaced the previous task of individual analysis of vast amounts of information.

"With the rapid growth of the global aviation industry, the importance of fast and accurate analysis of aviation information is growing," an Asiana Airlines official said. "The introduction of 'Wind-AI' has allowed us to disseminate aviation information quickly, increase our employees' analytical skills, and strengthen safety flight elements."
